Wow that was hard!

October 27 2017

I have returned now from a wonderful walking holiday in the Western USA.  I have seen some amazing sites including the Grand Canyon (one off my bucket list) which was amazing.  However my favourite moment of the holiday was in the Canyonlands National Park.  We walked on the ‘Island in the Sky’ to the rim of a huge canyon where we sat in silence for a few minutes just listening to the sound of the desert – amazing!

I have been back for nearly two weeks now and I have found the jet lag really hard!  Going west was not so difficult just a matter of staying up for as long as possible but coming home after a couple of weeks on Pacific Time has been a completely different story.  The first thing I always do when I return from holiday is re-establish my ‘magic morning’ routine.  As regular readers will know I like to get up at 5am and spend the first three hours of the day working on something of my choice – currently my book.  8am to 10am is my ‘me’ time – that is when I exercise and then relax with a coffee and my journal.  By 10.30 I am ready to get on with the day job.

I have really struggled to get back on track.  Normally I am in bed by 9pm and asleep by 10.  For the last couple of weeks I haven’t been able to get to sleep and if I do I have been waking at 2am thinking it is time to get up.  When the alarm goes off my body has just been saying ‘no’ and getting out of bed early has been impossible.  I have been tired and I know I have not been doing my best work.  Anyway I am pleased to report that after two weeks of effort normal routine has been re-established.  I woke at 5am this morning after a good night’s sleep keen to get going.

And I have just realised that the clocks go back this weekend.  A whole extra hour.  I have decided to take advantage and make up for some lost time – so for one week only I am going to stay on the body clock that I have fought so hard for and set my alarm for 4am.  Even better I am looking forward to it!  I will give myself that extra hour in bed the next weekend knowing I have earned it.

Have a good day!
