My year started rather differently this year. I have just got a new puppy ‘Alfie’ and he was terrified by the fireworks at midnight so I spent the first few hours of 2018 sleeping with him on the sofa! I have fallen head over heels in love with this mutt. Anyway, thanks to Alfie, New Year’s Day dawned hangover free and I spent the day setting my goals for 2018.
I was skiing last week. On Wednesday evening I was reflecting on my skiing journey. I was feeling pretty pleased with myself because I was in an off piste lesson group with an old friend who has always been a much better skier than me. Learning to ski has been a long hard slog for me and the fact that I am now even using the words ‘off piste’ in connection with my skiing seems amazing!!
Thursday was a different story…
I love making my new year resolutions and I have spent the last couple of days thinking about what I want for 2017.
As many of you will know by now I think it is really important that you live your life in balance – and for me that means balancing 3 areas.
- ‘me’ – this is things that I want for myself – to be the best me I can be. I break this down into health, environment, finances and adventures and dreams.
- ‘those I love’ – things I want to do for my primary relationship, family, friends and the community.
- ‘work’ – what I want to achieve at work – so that I will be doing my best work.
I am writing this on board a plane to Delhi to join a group of people I have never met before for the classic journey from Delhi to Kathmandu.
The trip is important to me – no less than 3 items from my bucket list to be ticked off – the Taj Mahal, the holy city of Varanasi and trekking in the Himalayas.
It has been a hectic couple of weeks working hard and I don’t really feel mentally ready for the holiday but I am determined to change that right now! I only have one task for the plane and that is to think about my ‘intent’ for the holiday so I don’t make the same mistake again! (see last blog!)
